Brechin won the toss, and Glen kicked off, and the City that once made tracks for McPherson, but Easson sent past. Some clever play on the left by Henderson, Matthew, and Petrie resulted in the custodian saving shots from Matthew and Lyon. Brechin returned to the attack, and Easson had a great try. Aberdeen now began to assert themselves, and Hampton had a great save from Towns. Some clever play on the homesters' left was checkmated by Shand, who stopped Edgar when in a dangerous position, and play was again transferred. Graham had a good try a which the custodian cleared. In a trice the strangers were at the other end, where they forced a brace of corners, which proved fruitless. Again the locals dashed northwards, and a fine cross from Easson failed to find a seconder. The next moment the Wasps were at the other end, and in the melee in front of Hampton, Shand kicked through his own goal. The city pressed after this, and Easson missed are rare chance from a cross by Petrie, the ball running along the goalmouth. The locals kept up the pressure, but could not Pierce the defence. Brechin continued to have us the visiting defence, but could not find an opening. A regular bombardment of the strangers' goal took place, but the defence prevailed. The Granite City men came away, but Shand and Lyon were equal to all calls made on them.
On resuming the city at once attacked, but Hannah relieved. Easson had a try from far out, which skimmed the crossbar. Glen was bustling the backs to some tune, when he had a sturdy pair to run up against in Hannah and Stevens, who were robbing the home forwards of the play time and again. The excitement was at fever heat as Brechin forced corner after corner, but try as they might they could not score. A feature of the match was a magnificent goal keeping of McPherson, who was saving shots from all quarters. Two minutes from the finish the city equalized, Matthew netting.
