An enjoyable game was witnessed at Pittodrie between teams representing the Aberdeen Club and the British Army, on behalf of King George's Fund for Sailors. The weather was pleasant, and there was a fairly large attendance. Both sides were strong, players being on the field from the following clubs - Aberdeen, Dundee, Hearts, Swindon, Hibs, Rangers and Celtic.
From the kick-off Aberdeen pressed for two or three minutes, but the Army afterwards made progress and two corners from the second of which Gordon scored seven minutes from the start. Sergt. Gordon had another excellent attempt for pointage, and at the other end Robertson and Walker had both good tries for Aberdeen, but were just a little wide of the mark. Until the interval play continued interesting, both sides doing good work, but no further scoring took place.
The Army raided on resumption, and end-to-end play ensued. Following an exciting passage in front of Anderson, Aberdeen invaded and Wyllie equalised. The Army were soon on the ascendancy again, Gordon scoring a second goal. There was a crop of goals within the last half-hour. First Wyllie equalized, and then the army again got on the lead, McCandless doing the needful. Robertson levelled matters, however, and in the closing minutes Wyllie scored his third point of the afternoon, and gave his side victory.
The band of the Gordon Highlanders gave selections before the kick-off and at the interval.
