Aberdeen 3 - 7 Dundee

A spring holiday fixture at Pittodrie Park, Aberdeen, between Aberdeen and Dundee, arranged in connection with the Aberdeen University students' gala week in aid of the Royal Infirmary and other hospitals, attracted some 1500 spectators, the miserable rainy weather up till midday greatly interfering with the attendance. Dundee had the superior team, and in the opening half looked as though they would carry everything before them. First Cowan scored, and then Bird had the "hat trick." Aberdeen's play improved in the second period, and goals came from Moir, Forbes and Dey. Towards the close Dundee simply swarmed round the Aberdeen uprights, and Bird, Cowan, and Halliday each scored, enabling Dundee to return victory by seven goals to three.

In a holiday match at Pittodrie in aid of the funds of the local hospitals, a Dundee eleven beat an Aberdeen side by 7 goals to 3. A breakdown in the weather greatly affected he attendance. When the teams took the field there were less than 1500 spectators.

Aberdeen set a fair pace on the sodden ground, and following an accurate centre Grant, Thomson shot wide, and later Fotheringham had to get down to a try by Moir. Fine forcing play by Dey, at left half, resulted in his testing Fotheringham with a hard drive. Dundee took some time to settle, but ultimately Halliday got away, and Lawrie saved at full length from Ross.
Dundee continued to show improvement, and Cowan scored with a fast shot, which found the net off the upright. Subsequently Aberdeen forced a couple of successive corners, but Fotheringham was not tested until Moir fastened on to a cross by Alexander with great force. Most of the play was in Dundee territory, but the home forwards had little penetrative power.
A second goal came to Dundee. Ross broke away, and centring to Anderson, that player shot, and the ball rebounded off Lawrie. Again the ball was shot and blocked, and ultimately Bird accepted from Anderson to score easily. Dundee continued to easily hold their own, and Bird just failed to increase the lead, the ball going narrowly past. At the other end, Fotheringham had to field a long drive by Hutton.
The visiting goalkeeper got more to do after this, Grant and Alexander testing his abilities, but Dundee soon made their lead three. Irving dribbled through, and his pass was simply turned through by Bird. For a time the visitors made light of the opposition, but in a home raid Fotheringham was lucky to block a terrific shot from Grant at close range. Lawrie had to clear from Bird and Anderson. Fine leading-up play by McLean resulted in Halliday crossing accurately for Bird to head through a fourth goal and register the 'hat trick."

Goals Galore,

Aberdeen were the more aggressive side after the change of ends, and after five minutes Grant got away to cross practically on the goal line, and Moir, who had changed places with Forbes, gave Fotheringham no chance with a well-taken shot. The play of the home team improved appreciably after this belated success, and Forbes missed a fine chance by shooting badly after a mistake by McKenzie.
The Dundee attack was much leas in evidence, and their play suggested that the visitors were content with the big lead already established. The Aberdeen attack, on the other hand, if more the picture, did not impress, their combined work being below par.
When, Grant placed the ball nicely from the flag and Forbes scored a second goal for Aberdeen, the success was well enough deserved, but obviously the home team were exerting themselves more than were the visitors. Subsequent play was of an even nature, each side attacking in turn. Off a well-judged cross by Thompson Dey scored a third goal for Aberdeen after Moir had muddled a fine chance. Dundee came again after this, and Bird got through to score a fifth, and shortly afterwards Cowan added a sixth with a beautiful shot. Almost from the kick-off Halliday counted a seventh goal for Dundee, who were easy and deserving winners.
