In the minor Derby at Dens Park, in an Alliance match, the Aberdeen A team sustained a 6?0 defeat from Dundee A. The home team over-ran the visitors at the beginning, and Bird scored after five minutes. Ten minutes later, in which Dundee had consistently attacked, Dawson headed a second goal from Bell's square. Lawrie made splendid saves from Mackie. The light Dundee forwards easily tricked the heavy Aberdonians, who did not seem able to keep their feet on the frosty ground. Aberdeen were a very poor side. Their only approach to score was when Moir drove narrowly past from a foul kick.
Dundee began the second half as they had left off the first, attacking, and within two minutes Bird again scored with a good shot. After further eight minutes Bird easily scored the hat-trick from Bell's cross. Aberdeen improved, but there seemed little danger if their scoring, although a hard drive by Duggins passed the post. Bird almost made another score by heading in a corner by Bell. From a foul kick by Bell, Dawson scored a fifth. Dundee's play was not by any means of a high standard, yet they seemed capable of adding a goal at will. Bird scored his fourth goal and Dundee's sixth with terrific shot from Lennie's pass. Aberdeen's heavy defeat was not merely due to the frozen ground and consequent treacherous footing: it must be put down to their general ineptitude.
