It was a coincidence that while Aberdeen's first team was being drubbed 4-0 at Motherwell the Reserve eleven were garnering the Aberdeenshire league points at the expense Buckie Thistle at Buckie by a similar score.
The visitors kicked off, and in the opening stages the game was very fast, both goals being visited In rapid succession. Stewart was making a fine run down the wing, and McCombie could only ease matters by kicking out. An attack by Aberdeen was nullified by Nicol, and after a brilliant dash by "Toshie," Newlands shot past. As the game progressed it was evident that the heavier Aberdeen players were superior. The hefty kicking of McBoyle and the bustling tactics of Robertson, combined with the fine passing of the forwards were too much for home lot. Yule and Rankine were prominent in the attack, and after sustained pressure, the latter opened the scoring with a shot which gave Hector no chance. Thistle were unlucky with the second goal. In endeavouring to clear a shot from Wilson, Rae placed the ball in the net, to the chagrin of the Thistle supporters. The homesters made valiant efforts to find the net, McKenzie giving yeoman service at centre-half, but, Aberdeen's defence was sound. Before half-time Mackie added a third goal, and the teams crossed over with Aberdeen leading by 3 goals to 0.
Thistle made a good beginning in the second period, but did not get things their own way for any length of time. Yule clever on left wing, and required careful watching. Cameron gave Sutherland a hot one which he only saved at the expense of a corner. Then when Aberdeen were pressing, Geddes made a clearance, which gave Macdonald his chance and he scored with a grounder. Thistle pressed and were awarded a penalty, but Cameron missed the kick. The game finished with Aberdeen easy winners.
