Aberdeen travelled to the City of Discovery to play Dundee United at the home of Dundee North End Juniors. A good game was in prospect with both teams unbeaten this season. Stephen Payne returned to the side after a long injury. United got off to the perfect start when Paul Burns opened the scoring early on. After only 10 minutes the Dons suffered a huge setback as centre forward Calum McHattie was sent off for what appeared to be an illegal use of the elbows in an off the ball incident.
Aberdeen held out remarkably well until just before half time when Graeme Holmes made it 2-0 for the home side. Aberdeen had a couple of chances to score early in the second half, but the attacking ended when Duncan Jones was sent off for a reckless challenge on the end of the box. To compound Aberdeen's misery, Stephen O'Donnell expertly curled the ball round the outside of the wall and into the net.
Stephen O'Donnell scored his second almost immediately, Aaron Conway and man of the match Paul Burns completed the rout. The early sending off of McHattie was disastrous for the young Dons, and despite conceding 6 goals, David Hutton played well. This will be one of those games will young Dons will hope to quickly forget.
