Aberdeen Reserves put up a plucky fight at Ayr, where the United second string beat them in a Scottish Alliance game by 2 goals to 0. Early in the game Mutch sent the ball against the home team's crossbar, and Edward was unfortunate to send the rebound into Nisbet's hands. Play was even for a time, both goalkeepers being well tested. Midway through the period Brae put the United ahead, but Aberdeen were unfortunate not to equalise, Mutch, Edward, and C. B. Forbes coming near to counting. Aberdeen, attacked strongly in the earlier stages the second half, and on several occasions Nisbet cleared when Aberdeen appeared certain to score. In a breakaway by the home forwards a penalty kick was given against Aberdeen, and from the spot McLean beat Cunningham. In the closing stages Aberdeen rallied, and Thomson, after a great run, sent the ball against the upright.
