The Aberdeen "A" team did well to force a draw with Airdrieonians "A" in a Scottish Alliance match at Airdrie, each side scoring once. Airdrie, aided by a strong wind, attacked strongly, and, after a few efforts had been beaten off, Mountney beat the Aberdeen defence and scored. Promising play by Scorgie and Thomson ended with Sutherland getting offside. Cunningham distinguished himself by saving finely from McVee and Mountney. The Aberdeen front rank were moving well, but their shooting was weak. At length Scorgie got away, and in the succeeding play the visitors should have scored, but Airdrieonians led by goal at the interval.
Much was expected from Aberdeen in the second half, with the sun and wind in their favour, but the home defence was very sound. Only force of numbers prevented the home centre from scoring. Ritchie and Bruce were conspicuous for good clearances, and Scorgie and Sutherland endeavoured to improve matters by their forcing play. Offside, however, was their undoing. Ultimately D. Thomson scored a brilliant goal for Aberdeen, who worthily deserved a draw.
