The football supporters in Peterhead had every reason to be proud of the exhibition given by the home eleven on Saturday, when they beat Aberdeen "A' in an Aberdeenshire League fixture by 2 goals to 1. The match created considerable interest in Peterhead and district, and the large crowd that lined the ropes were entertained to a really sporting tussle, which was punctuated with thrills from beginning to end. Starting away with great vim, Peterhead within seven minutes found the net through Alexander McRobbie. The visitors gained the equaliser some time after the cross-over in a somewhat unexpected fashion. At a time of pressure, Aiken tipped back to Lawrie, the home custodian, but Forbes got his foot on the ball and sent it to the back of the net. About a minute later Peterhead took the lead again; E. Gray crowning a brilliant solo effort with a shot that beat Cunningham all the way. The closing stages of the game were characterised by strenuous efforts on the part of the Aberdeen team to get level, but Grant, R. Bruce, and Main, though exerting their shooting abilities to the utmost, were unable to defeat Lawrie, who seemed to be on the top of his form.
On play, the homesters deserved their victory. Although the visitors had very much the heavier team, their combination was not so good as that of their opponents. The best for Aberdeen "A" were Main, R. Bruce, Cunningham, and Forbes. Grant played an excellent game, but was so well watched by Campbell that he did not often get a chance of being dangerous. All the Peterhead eleven excelled, there being a marked improvement in their play all round. Lawrie gave a first-class exhibition between the uprights, while the veteran Thomson seemed to have recaptured for the afternoon all the fleetness and skill of his former days.
