Aberdeen 0 - 1 Buckie Thistle

Aberdeen and District League
Buckie Thistle scorers: Murray

22/11/1924 | KO: 14:30

Buckie Thistle Win Poor Game

It was a scrappy game at Pittodrie, where Buckie triumphed over a scratch Aberdeen "A" team by the only goal of the match, and thus retained their place at the top of the Aberdeen and District League table with five games won and one drawn. There were no fewer than five new faces in the home ranks, and, of the "strangers,' Wilson (the Inverurie juvenile custodian), McIntosh (the East End half), and Paterson (the back from Hall, Russell's) were the only ones who justified their inclusion. Duncan, the newcomer from Chelsea, was virtually a passenger, while Burge, Hall. Russell's, could not get going, although he might have fared better with more support. Of the 'regulars," Grant and Berstad were the only two who played to form, and the finishing efforts of the other forwards were puerile.
Buckie played a fast and methodical game throughout, but it would pay them better if they cut out some of the foul tactics, such as tripping and unfair charging, to which they are at times too prone to resort. Both teams were, of course, sinners in this respect - a tendency that is becoming too common these days - but there is no denying that the Buckie players started the 'rough-housing' and did the major part of it. They have a fine custodian in George Anderson, late of Aberdeen; two steady backs, a grand centre-half, and a nippy forward line, with a speedy left winger in Dickie. Their forwards did not blend so well as usual, however, and their final efforts lacked sting.
Murray got their goal, a good drive along the ground which gave Wilson no chance, but the ball had previously been weakly cleared by Ritchie. There was crowd about 8000.
