SLACKNESS IN ATTACK EVIDENT
On the run of play there was not much between the teams in this Reserve League match at Gayfield, but Aberdeen had more chances, and it was slackness in attack that lost them a point. Included in the home team was Moir, centre-forward of Mugiemoss, the Aberdeen junior team, and he was unlucky not to score. First blood was drawn by the visitors, Taylor heading home a cross by Williams in seven minutes. Milne equalised with twenty-two minutes gone, and Kelly was at fault when McLaren gave Arbroath the lead just on half-time. The custodian misjudged a long punt by the right back and it sailed over his head into the net. Aberdeen did the bulk of the pressing in the second half, but they required a penalty to level the scores. Brady was on the mark from the spot. The Young Dons pressed steadily in the later stages, but they could not score. Best in a hard-working home team were Robertson. Taylor, Duncanson, and Moir. For the visitors Graham, Scott, Grant and Hume were best.Source: Press & Journal, 6th February 1939
