Towsy Game At Pittodrie

When two teams that play the same type of football meet one usually expects a display fireworks, and the 5300 spectators who saw the Aberdeen and St Mirren "A" teams battling for Alliance points at Pittodrie were not disappointed. Cup-tie football of the swinging type, with plenty of terrier-like tackling was the rule, and Aberdeen won pretty comfortably by reason of more opportunism forward and a set of defenders that lasted the pace better.
When first Love and then McFarlane missed penalty kicks there were some gloomy faces in the crowd, despite the fact that in between McFarlane had headed home a shot from Edward which came to him off the cross-bar. The look seemed to be justified when the visitors' internationalist inside right flashed in a long shot which found the net, McSevioh seeming a little slow to get off the mark.
It was McSevich's only mistake, however, and in the second half, when St Mirren were pressing, he did as much as anyone to break the back of their attack. And broken it was when the Aberdeen wing halves took the same grip as Edward had held all the time. McFarlane got a second goal with another head effort, and then McKenzie, the young player from Parkvale, tricked the goalkeeper and hooked the ball across an empty goal for Falloon to tap it through. "Saints" defended stoutly, but their forwards could not get properly going latterly.
