Hearts 'A' Narrowly Beaten

Aberdeen "A" are firmly established at the top of the Alliance League table, and hopes are high that they will retain that position throughout the season.
They surmounted another obstacle on Saturday when, before 8000 spectators at Pittodrie, they defeated Hearts "A" by two goals to one. This result does not do full justice to Aberdeen's superiority, but this was the fault of the forwards and a strong Hearts' defence.

The visitors commenced in promising fashion and after Blackwell had saved from Flucker and G. Miller, Robertson gave them the lead. It took the home team some time to recover from this reverse, but when they did the Hearts' defence had a hard time. Crosskey saved from McKenzie, and the same player soon afterwards struck the foot of the post. The Aberdeen players kept up a determined pressure, and the visitors were busy defending their goal. Crosskey saved from Wilson, and at the other end Blackwell held a shot by G. Miller. Aberdeen continued to have the better of the exchanges but when the Hearts' attack did get going they were always dangerous.

With thirty minutes gone the homesters equalised, Wilson heading home a McKenzie cross.
On level terms, Aberdeen played with greatly Increased confidence, and it came as no surprise when just on the interval Merrie gave them the lead.
Aberdeen resumed where they had left off and Crosskey saved from Donald. Hearts were entirely on the defensive now and looked like going further in arrears. Merrie headed narrowly past, and a hard drive by David missed by inches.

The home team kept up a stiff pressure, and shots by Wilson, Donald, and Merrie went close. On one occasion all seemed lost when McKenzie let go a terrific drive, but Crosskey made a great one-handed save. Towards the close Aberdeen were rampant, but weak shooting kept them from increasing their lead.
