"A" TEAM ON TOP.
Aberdeen "A" returned to winning form again when at Muirton Park they defeated St Johnstone "A" by three goals to one. Aberdeen opened in convincing fashion, and after Wilson had missed narrowly, Smith saved from Merrie. With, the wind behind them the Saints took some time to settle down, but when they did they kept the Aberdeen defence busy. Stewart missed a chance, but for the most part the home attack was well held by the visitors' mid-line. In an Aberdeen raid Smith saved smartly from Wilson and Merrie. Just on the interval Stewart gave St Johnstone the lead. Immediately on the resumption Merrie struck the crossbar with the 'keeper beaten. Saints defended well, but after eighteen minutes McKenzie equalised. For the next ten minutes play was of an uneventful nature, then, following smart work by Wilson, Merrie gave Aberdeen the lead For the latter part of the period Aberdeen held a decided advantage, and it came as no surprise when Merrie netted a third point after David had struck the woodwork.Source: Press & Journal, 28th October 1929
