We played an Arbroath Select at Gayfield Park last Sunday in a Benefit Match for Tom Cargill the long serving Arbroath sweeper.
It was a light-hearted game with the players on both sides taking no risks. The result was 3-2 for the Select, but on chances, we should have won easily. Our scorers were Mark McGhee and Drew Jarvie. Drew was sporting a lovely black eye, which he received on the Saturday playing against Dundee United. Our former goalkeeper Gordon Marshall was trying to save penalties in a competition at half-time. The big man is looking fit and was telling me that his son who is also a goalkeeper is signed on an S form for Rangers.
Former Arbroath Manager Albert Henderson was also present. Albert is still out of work, but he says he has one or two jobs in mind. Another personality present was former Referee John Gordon, who officiated at the youth game which was the pre-match entertainment. We were served with a lovely tea and presented with Caithness Glass Decanters.
