Not for the first time this season a young Aberdeen reserve team met an experienced side in their latest Premier Reserve League match against Motherwell who included ex-Ranger Russell and Cup winners O'Neill and Ferguson.
Aberdeen started brightly but were rocked back on their heels when Motherwell scored against the run of play from a defensive error.
The Young Dons gradually forced their way into the game. They were inspired by Andy Gibson in particular who was setting a great example with his skill and effort. Andy has been the most consistent player this season and coach Willie Miller speaks very highly of him.
Despite being a goal down Aberdeen continued to make - and miss - chances. Motherwell then broke away to score a second goal, which Willie attributes to a lack of communication among the defenders, thus causing confusion.
At the point, Watson and Cameron were pushed upfield and Aberdeen began to combine better as a unit. Gibson was upsetting the Motherwell defence and eventually he scored with less than a quarter of an hour to go. In a storming finish two 18 year-olds combined to produce the equaliser - McCafferty crossed for Nisbet to score four minutes from time.
When injured players Humphries, Downie, Ferguson, Roddie and Gregg Watson return, the Young Dons should really click. Gibson's excellent displays earned him a place in the squad for last Wednesday's European cup-tie.
