Aberdeen Reserves Through

Highlight of the season so far for Dons "A" squad was their Reserve League Cup semi-final win against Rangers at Ibrox last week which earned them a Final meeting against Dundee United to be played over two legs.
Rangers put out a side containing around £750,000 worth of playing talent but the young Dons put up a marvelous performance and cliched the tie in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out after the teams had tied 1-1 following extra time.
Aberdeen took the lead after just two minutes of the game starting when Brian Grant turned in a cross from Wright. Ally McCoist came up with Rangers' equaliser after 16 minutes ans from then on and during extra time, defences tended to be on top with chances at both ends few and far between.
The game went into the penalty decider with Dons scoring from the spot through Hewitt, Wright, Porteous, Grant, Gunn, Cowan, and Green. Although Falconer and McIntyre missed with their kicks, Rangers had two spot-kicks saved by keeper Bryan Gunn and then missed with the vital kick to send the Dons through to the Final.
