A Wright Doing For Cove

The rare appearance of Alex McLeish among the young Dons helped them to a resounding and highly-impressive 4-0 win over Cove Rangers in the Aberdeenshire Cup.
Dons are back in the competition after an absence of about four years because Aberdeen University have dropped out leaving a vacancy to make up the eight teams. Alex was included in that game to help speed his recovery from injury and his presence helped give the whole team a lift for a performance about which coach Teddy Scott was still glowing several days later.
'Alex is such a smashing big fellow that the younger players cannot help but respond to him,' said Teddy. 'There is no doubt in my mind that the rest of the team were out to show him what they could do.
'It was a marvellous thing for them to have him with them. He only has to say: "do this" or "do that" and they get on and do it. We are very fortunate to have such a character in the club. His attitude is ideal. He never sees himself as above these kind of things.'
The match was played on a hard, frosty pitch but Dons got on with it as though conditions were normal, to play some fine football. Paul Wright got two of the goals while Andy McLeod (penalty) and Scott Harvie scored the others.
It was a tremendous display by our lads, one of the best for a long time,' added Scott. 'Selbie and Gardner did a fine job in midfield and so did Grant in between them.'
