Reserves Get An Early Shock
Football is a strange game, a fortnight ago we scored seven goals against Hibs at Pittodrie with ease and last Saturday at Firhill against Partick Thistle we only managed to score two, but on the chances we had it should have been another seven.
Bad finishing by Danny McGeough, Alan Oliver and Duncan Davidson, plus some excellent saves from our former goalkeeper Ally McLean spoiled our good outfield play particularly in the second half. Our first half display was well below our usual standard and slackness in our defence allowed Thistle to take an early lead. This was a shock, but Danny McGeough had two easy chances to put us ahead before Thistle broke away and scored again, to give them a 2-0 lead at half-time.
It was a different story after the interval. Our lads put the pressure on and only bad finishing and good goalkeeping allowed us only two goals, one of which was a penalty given when Duncan Davidson was brought down. Duncan easily beat Ally McLean from the spot. Duncan had a hand in our equaliser when he headed on an Andy Dornan cross for big Doug Rougvie to blast past the Thistle goalkeeper. It was fitting that Doug should score as he was the outstanding player afield. Other players who did well for us were Neil Cooper, Andy Dornan, Joe Smith, Steve Ritchie and Andy Watson.
Today we go to Parkhead where I'm sure we will get a hard game. Our games in the past have always been played in good spirit with good football which is the main priority. Let's hope the same applies today.
