Aberdeen 1 - 2 Falkirk

Div 1 (Old)
Aberdeen scorers: Walker.
Falkirk scorers: Thomson, Glancy

23/01/1915 | KO:

Aberdeen and Falkirk met at Pittodrie, Aberdeen. A crowd of 6000 spectators witnessed this game, which almost from the outset went in favour of the visitors. Falkirk showed superior initiative, were a faster lot, and at times displayed a pretty and effective combination that outclassed the home players. The first goal fell to Thomson, who, shooting from 25 yards out, sent in a swerving ball that beat Anderson somewhat mysteriously. Before the interval Glancy added another goal for Falkirk with a magnificent shot across the goalmouth, which found the corner of the net. In the second half Aberdeen?s bustling tactics evened matters up somewhat, but the team was outclassed all through, excepting on one brilliant occasion, when, following clever work by Soye and Walker on the right wing, Walker burst through from close quarters. Of the visitors Glancy and Thomson were the pick of the forwards, and had Colman looking uncomfortable on numerous occasions. Reilly was strong at centre half, and both Henderson and Orrock were dependable. Stewart saved some hard testing shots with skill.

Aberdeen fell to Falkirk at Pittodrie after a game in which the home stars were outclassed all through, and which had its only exciting turn shortly before the close. Falkirk were better all round, the difference in the teams being particularly noticeable amongst the forwards and half-backs. The visitors were quick in conceiving movements, and smart to execute them, whereas their opponents had the fatal tendency strongly developed of hanging to the ball until all opportunities were gone. Thomson and Glancy, who played a sterling game throughout, were responsible for the two goals registered against Aberdeen, the first being a deceptive swerving shot which Anderson did not seem to appreciate, and the second a hard knock into the corner of the net, which the custodian never had a chance of saving. Walker notched the point for the homsters, Stewart, who had defended goal magnificently all through the game, failing to negotiate a hard shot. Two wards the close Aberdeen showed more hustle, and for a spell kept the visitors' defence busy, but it proved invulnerable, and corner after corner lead to no augmentation of this score. Falkirk's win was throughout well deserved. Colman, Wyllie and walker were the outstanding players for the home lot.
