Bhoys From Paradise Hit Young Dons Hard
ALL GOOD things come to an end, and the young Dons' successful run certainly did that last week against Celtic. The three games in four days the previous week took a heavy toll on our playing strength, and manager Bontrhone's biggest problem was to find a team to take the field as a result of first team calls and other injuries. Against any other team we might have got away with it, but Celtic's back¬bone of experience proved too much for out hastily got-together side. The young Celts had international keeper Alistair Hunter on view, and other first team potentials in Jimmy Bone, Vic Davidson, Pat Quinn, Paul Wilson, and Andy Lynch, a £30,000 buy from Hearts who hasn't really hit it off at Parkhead.
Before last week's 5-1 debacle our last defeat had been against Celtic away back in December, after which we had won 1 5 games and drawn three. Our makeshift side couldn't be faulted on the score of effort, with Duncan Glennie playing manfully in defence and Lewis United winger Brian Martin showing up quite well in the second half. The one really bright spot in the display was the performance of John Docherty, our recruit from Benburb. Full-time training should give him the extra pace that will make him a first team candidate.
