In the last few weeks we have had a couple of bad results at Ibrox and Parkhead, but we came back to winning form against Clydebank in the first leg of the League Cup Final 1978-79. Andy Watson, our skipper for the day scored our only goal. We did not play well, as too many of our players had an off day, but with the chances we created, a score line of 4-0 would have been more in keeping with the game.
We had played much better in the two previous games and lost them - football can certainly be a funny game at times. We had two new boys in action against Celtic, and both did very well. Doalty Sweeney at left-back gave a good account of himself and looks as if he will be an asset to our playing staff. John Boyce, a young striker from the Clydebank area will also be a useful player for us. John started as a full-time player on Monday, but Doalty will finish his studies as an art designer, and will turn full-time at the start of next season.
We have lost our goalkeeper John Gardiner to Dundee United, and with Neil Cooper away to Barnsley we have lost two of our experienced players. However it gives the younger players a chance, and in time they will be as good as their predecessors. John and Neil did a good job for the club and the players, and I wish them the best of luck with their new clubs.
