Dear Head Teacher
SCHOOLS FOOTBALL COACHING PROGRAMME 2005/2006
Aberdeen Football Club's Dons in the Community team are now taking bookings for football coaching visits for season 2005/2006. These sessions proved very popular over the last school year with 100 schools participating in the programme.
This year, any school booking a six week block of either full day or half day sessions will be entitled to an AFC signed football. The signed ball would be a useful raffle item to raise funds for your school or could be displayed for everyone to see.
The sessions will incorporate the strands outlined in the expressive arts document for children aged 5 - 14. These can be delivered on either a half or full day basis, lunch time or after school and will cover individual skills, group practices and small sided games, with emphasis on fun enjoyment, maximum participation and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. There is evidence that children can develop team building skills, improve their self-esteem and respect for others by participating in sporting activities. This can also contribute to improved academic performance. Each session will include a short discussion on healthy lifestyle issues.
To reiterate, the aims of the programme are to provide a planned and structured opportunity for both boys and girls to participate in football activities within the school curriculum and out-of-school hours and for teachers who are interested to be given the chance to gain a Level 1 SFA Early Touches Certificate award. However, I would like to emphasise that we do not see our service as a replacement for Primary PE provision, but should clearly be seen as an extension to the curriculum. All our coaches are also Disclosure Scotland checked and are educated on child protection issues.
If your school would like a visit from one of our Dons in the Community coaches, or if you would like further information please telephone Scott Anderson direct on (01224) 650423 or email Anne MacEwan, firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively you can contact your local school sport co-ordinator who will organise the visit for you.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours in sport,
