Mackie double brings dons back to life
Pride was restored by the Dons at Almondvale as they came back from 2-0 down to share the points with Livingston. Aberdeen found themselves two goals behind despite matching their hosts for skill and effort. The Dons were not to be denied and could have taken all three points but Mackie found the wrong side of the post with the last kick of the match.

Livi kicked off, but Aberdeen had the first opportunity when Bisconti tried a speculative 20-yard effort in the opening minute, which went inches over Culkin?s cross bar. The Dons went close again in the 5th minute after some fine passing play. McAllister delivered a dangerous cross from the left and Mackie headed just over. Aberdeen went close again in the 11th minute as the Dons continued to take the game to Livingston. McAllister and Young set up Eugene Dadi and the Ivory Coast player was fouled on the edge of the box. He still managed to steer the ball into the path of Mackie and he was again inches high with his shot.

Livingston then took the lead against the run of play when Esson brought down Bingham inside the penalty area. Wilson sent the keeper the wrong way as Livi scored with their first shot at goal. They nearly doubled their lead three minutes later when Wilson went close after a mistake by Solberg. Aberdeen were not going to crumble this time and continued to have the bulk of the possession. Winters went close in the 21st minute when he broke into the box and was denied by the left leg of Culkin.

In the 33rd minute Derek Whyte steered the ball on target from a McAllister free kick, but the shot didn?t trouble Culkin in the Livi goal. Livingston desperately cleared the ball from the goal line three minutes later. Using the familiar corner kick system, Culkin failed to collect the ball and Solberg looked to have scored before Quino cleared on the goal line. The ball rebounded to McGuire and he ballooned his effort high over the bar. Culkin denied the Dons in the 40th minute when Winters hit a tremendous free kick from 30 yards. The ball was heading for the top left hand corner, but the keeper somehow tipped the ball over. Livingston went close to doubling their advantage in the last minute following a slip by McGuire on the edge of the box. Esson redeemed himself with a fine save.

Aberdeen made a whirlwind start to the second period as they pushed for the equaliser. Both Dadi and Mackie had early chances as the home side were pinned back. The Dons should have equalised in the 49th minute when Winters broke on the left and Mackie failed to steer his cross on target. Once more though, the Dons were caught by a sucker punch when Tosh hit a volley from the edge of the box, which left Esson helpless. Good play between Mackie and Winters in the 55th minute saw Hart make a last gasp challenge to concede a corner. From the kick the ball broke to Tiernan on the edge of the box and his fierce shot was blocked in a crowded box.

The Dons deservedly pulled a goal back in the 58th minute. A Solberg throw in was nodded on by Dadi and Mackie was on hand to steer the ball past Culkin. Dadi broke on the right in the 65th minute and sent in a dangerous cross that Hart struggled to clear. Aberdeen were putting the Livingston back four under a lot of pressure as they pushed for the equaliser. Thornley replaced Winters in the 68th minute and a minute later the Dons equalised. Hart attempted to clear the ball but Dadi closed him down and blocked the attempt. The ball broke to Mackie and he slipped the ball past Culkin.

Livingston brought on Fernandes and Lowndes in the 77th minute as they stepped up a gear. Two minutes later Tosh should have shot but elected to cross and lost the advantage. Aberdeen replaced the tiring Tiernan with McNaughton in the 80th minute. The Dons broke in the 82nd minute and McNaughton delivered the perfect cross for Dadi. Unfortunately the Ivory Coast man made a complete mess of the header. McAllister was stretchered off in the 84th minute and was replaced by Anderson. Darren Mackie should have made it 3-2 to the Dons with the last kick of the game. A brilliant passing movement between Dadi, Thornley and Mackie ended with the striker having only Culkin to beat. His shot went agonisingly wide of the target and the game ended 2-2 but pride was restored.
