DONS DUMPED ON DISMAL DAY
"It had to come," "They'll play all the better now," "The strain is off." These and many other similar expressions were heard after the game last Saturday. The plain fact is that on the day the Dons were soundly beaten by a much better team. We wouldn't classify the Shawfield team as world-beaters but they certainly took their chances and they "got the breaks"! It was a real "Clyde day." Time and time again the ball "broke kindly" for the visitors and the Dons, instead of attacking, found themselves back in defence. There was a wonderful crowd considering the freak conditions. It must be many years since a game was played out at Pittodrie in such a fog. Spectators could see only part of the field clearly and at times it was quite amusing to watch an Aberdeen player racing down the field apparently controlling a "phantom" ball and seconds afterwards see him "haring" back, having seemingly lost the ball to, an opponent and rushing back to help in defence. The most tantalising part was to peer into the mist when play was near Fred Martin, without a clue as to what was happening, and then to see most of the visitors in their white shirts jumping in joy round one of the Clyde players to realise that once more the ball was in the net!! The Dons fought to the end?and no wonder with the support they got! In former days there used to be complaints that onlookers at Pittodrie were too harsh in their criticisms?too ready to jeer instead of cheer. This certainly was not true of the supporters on Saturday last for they urged on the Dons from start to finish.

Manger Shaw went to Glasgow last week to watch the "Colts" perform at Shawfield. The Reserves played quite well without being brilliant and the defence took the honours. Mr Shaw was told at half-time: "It's 4-1 at Pittodrie." He felt good until his informant blandly continued, after a pause for effect-"for Clyde"!!
