Airdrie Outplayed
The Dons had a most satisfactory win at Airdrie on Saturday. Torrential rain on Friday and again all forenoon on Saturday wasn't good preparation for the game, and the ground was really soft - in fact, in the centre it was sodden. The players had to drive the ball away from the middle of the pitch and, considering the bad conditions, the football served up by the Dons was very good. Aberdeen right from the start, made use of the wings and the home side had no answer. Airdrie fought hard enough, but from goal out, the Dons were very strong and played throughout as a team. Macmillan took the penalty award when the score was 4-1 for the Dons. His well-directed and hard-hit shot was aimed for the left-hand side of the goal (i.e., to the right of the Dons' keeper). The ball was travelling very fast about a foot from the ground and a yard from the post. Reggie Morrison brought off a wonderful save. The ball spun from his grasp, but he again dived to seize the ball before the oncoming Airdrie forwards could connect. Almost immediately afterwards, Graham Leggat raced through the middle to put the issue beyond doubt with his own third and his side's fifth goal.

No Penalty

Twice at' Airdrie there were loud claims front the spectators for a penalty against the Dons. On each occasion a home player was robbed of the ball and half stumbled in the tackle. Referee Mowat refused to be intimidated and rightly waved play on.
