DONS FIGHT HARD

REGAIN WINNING FORM AGAINST ORANGE FREE STATE AFTER UNINSPIREP START

(From Our Own Correspondent) Bloemfontein, Wednesday

Aberdeen had to fight hard to beat Orange Free State by two goals to nil in the sixth match of their South African tour here to-day.

The first goal was scored in the first half from a penalty by Armstrong, and Beynon netted early in the second half.
The visitors, who kicked off facing the sun, could not get the "feel" of the hard pitch until the second half, with the result that the home forwards make many fine attacks.

DONS IN DANGER

The Free State opened strongly, bearing down dangerously on the Aberdeen goal and Johnstone was called upon to make many saves.
Towards the end of the half Aberdeen became more aggressive and shots were rained upon Thorne, in the Free State goal, but his backs, Brown and Gradwell put up a staunch defence.
Shortly before the interval Aberdeen were awarded a penalty from which Armstrong scored and the visitors led by this goal at half-time.
On the resumption Aberdeen delighted the three thousand spectators with some fine long passing.

FROM MELEE

After four minutes play Armstrong, securing the ball from a melee, pushed it to Beynon who netted.
Marais, the home inside-left, who was an outstanding player for his side, injured his knee after fifteen minutes and the team had to be reshuffled.
The defence became disorganised and Aberdeen attacked consistently, but there were many keen tussles after the home side's attack was reformed.
There was a lot of uninspiring play and the game lacked incident after Marais's injury.
