Kirkcaldy won the toss, and immediately made progress on the right. Hannah cleared and play was confined to midfield. The ball was occasionally swung from end to end, but both sets of defenders played well. Toman forced a corner, the ball being sent over. Bobby Simpson then worked himself into position, and made the sphere skim the crossbar. Long kicking was the order, the ball being often out of play. A fine run by Toman was spoiled by the referee giving off side, but where the fault lay was not apparent. A likely-looking shot by McKinley was blocked by Birrell. A foul against Davidson allowed Kirkcaldy to get down, but Brebner was there, and let Toman away. A perfect centre by the latter resulted in Aberdeen getting the first goal. Wilson received a pass, I and, with the Kirkcaldy custodian out of his goal, sent in a beautiful shot. Kirkcaldy resumed in a bustling manner. Bobby Simpson crossed to accurately, but McKinley was swept off the ball. A grand dribbling run by Robertson almost resulted in an goal, Borthwick clearing luckily. An overhead shot gave Toman a chance, of which the winger took every advantage. He carried the ball up the field until he was at the mouth of the goal. Dorward flicked the sphere away. The crowd insisted that the ball had been over the line, but the referee ruled otherwise. Borthwick also had a hand in the clearing of the goal. This fact also the referee failed to observe.
