afc heritage gets some help

06 March 2011 15:39

The day that the Dons took on Hearts at Pittodrie was a good one for the AFC Heritage Trust. It was pretty good for the Dons too in so far as they played out an entertaining but goalless draw with the visitors. If anything the home side might well have won which is more than people would have expected a few weeks previously.

This was the day that the Former Players' Association presented the Heritage Trust with a cheque for 1000. The presentation was made by committee man Jimmy Wilson, ably assisted by Bob Wishart who had come up for the game and who also made the half-time draw. Bob Bain, treasurer of the Trust received the cheque and afterwards said: "This is a wonderfully generous gesture by the Former Players and will help the Trust greatly. A number of our members are working away behind the scenes researching stories for The Heavenly Dancers magazine and we all appreciate the close relationship that the Trust has with the FPs." On behalf of the Former Players, Jimmy Wilson noted: "The different organisations connected to the football club are all part of the Aberdeen family so we are glad that our Association is in a position to help the Heritage Trust in working towards its objectives. The contribution to the magazine is excellent and if they manage to get a football Museum opened then it will be a boost to the football community."

On another fund raising front, there was a bucket collection around the stadium and although it had to be organised at short notice when another charity pulled out, a hard working group of volunteers did a great job. Thanks to the generosity of the Red Army, a total of 740 was raised which, as with the Former Players' donation will be added to the Trust's "war chest" as it strives to raise the necessary funds to finance the proposed museum. A big thank you must go to the collectors and also to those who made donations on the day.
