Full name: Joseph Alexander Dyer.
Capped for the Army during his time at Pittodrie, he was a Sergeant at the time.
The secretary of the Scottish Football league, George Graham, paid Dyer a compliment when he staed: "But for his birthplace being Crewe, there is every chance that Dyer would have been Scotland's choice for Wembley. Alex's father was Scottish, but he himself saw the light of day across the Border. Another injustice!"
Later in his career he moved to Huddersfield Town and wrote to the Evening Express in March 1945: "I miss Aberdeen. I was very happy at Pittodrie. Glad to see the team is still at the top and playing the stuff to keep them there."
