After a very healthy career with several clubs, Barry returned to his native northeast and joined his home team. He made a positive impact off as well as on the park with his great experience lending steel to the team around him. Played a big part in helping to bring silverware back to Pittodrie after 19 years including scoring in the penalty shootout against Inverness Caley in March 2014.
Barry hung up his boot duriing season 2015-16 and went full time into the Pittodrie back room staff where he coached in the Youth Academy, ultimately taking charge of an excellent Under 18s side. He had a brief spell as caretaker manager when Stephen Glass left the Club in 2022 and the took over permanently at the end of January 2023, first as caretaker and then as permanent boss after turning the senior team's fortunes around very quickly.
