Former Aberdeen player Bobby Cummings has sadly collapsed and died at the age of 72. Bobby made his debut for Aberdeen against Rangers on 1st March 1960 and he went on to play 87 competitive games for the Dons, scoring a very impressive 49 goals.

Amongst that haul was an incredible 5 goals against Clyde in a 1962 Scottish Cup replay when Aberdeen won 10-3.
Bobby also scored a hat trick against Rangers in a sensational 6-1 win over the Ibrox side at Pittodrie in April 1961; the Dons record league win over their great rivals. He is one of select few players who has scored hat-tricks against the Ibrox side joining Joe O'Neil and Paddy Buckley before him in the 50's, and Jocky Scott, John Hewitt and Frank McDougall in subsequent seasons. He also became the first Englishman to score three goals against Rangers.

He started his career with his home town club Ashington and then moved to Aberdeen. When first transferred to the granite city Cummings continued to work the coalface at Bates Colliery and played part-time for Aberdeen to avoid being called up for National Service.

Bobby then moved to Newcastle United he helped them get promotion from Division Two in 1965. He scored 14 goals in 44 appearances for the Magpies. After helping United back into the top flight he led Darlington to promotion for the first time and then did the same with Hartlepool.
