Goalkeeper Blackwell arrived at Pittodrie in 1921 from Scunthorpe on a month's trial and remained for nine years. He displaced George Anderson as first choice goalkeeper and never looked back, winning many admireres for his suerb goalkeeping performances. Famed for playing in the Dons record score of 13-0 against Peterhead in 1923, Blackwell was reported to have watched proceedings whilst wearing an overcoat [see match report for 10th February 1923] and allegedly sheltered under an umbrella. Blackwell went on to play for Orient and Preston after leaving the Dons in 1930. After a season with Clapron Orient in 1931-1932, Harry joined Preston North End in July 1932.
He was brother of Ernest Blackwell who kept goal for Sheffield United and cousin of England International goalkeeper Sam Hardy. When he finished playing, Harry returned to Aberdeen and opened a tobacconist and newsagent's shop at 129 Victoria Road, Torry.
