Jimmy Jackson

Signed from Motherwell in the summer of 1923, Jackson came to Pittodrie with an impressive reputation, having been capped for the Scottish League during the previous season. The Dons' chairman indicated to the press that the transfer fee was "nearly £2000."

Transferred from Aberdeen to Liverpool at his own request, Jimmy had been at that time the most expensive player ever signed by Aberdeen. Controversy surrounded the transfer, as at the Club AGM of 1925 the chairman alleged that Jackson had asked away following criticism of him by supporters and in the press. Jackson subsequently denied this, instead blaming the directors for messing him about with inconsistent selection and playing him in too many different positions.

James Jackson, the former Aberdeen footballer who until recently played football for the Liverpool Club, was ordained minister the Presbyterian Church and inducted into the charge of St Andrew's Church, Douglas, Isle of Man.
