One of Alex Miller's signings, Derek arrived at Pittodrie for £100,000 from Middlesbrough FC, with a good pedigree but in difficult times. The pinnacle of his Aberdeen career came when he captained the team in the Scottish Cup Final in May 2000. Moved to Partick Thistle on a free transfer and became co-player/manager with Gerry Britton. Gave up the playing side of the game in 2004, eventually becoming a TV pundit and newspaper columnist in Dubai.
