Another of the original "Fergie fledglings" that was to play a huge part in the Dons success of the 80's. A tough, competitive midfielder, Simpson proved an ideal minder for the more subtle skills of Strachan and Weir, and was also capped for Scotland while at Pittodrie. Played in the Dons side that won the ECWC in 1983, and eventually moved to Newcastle in 1989, after an 11-year stint at Pittodrie. Made more than 300 appearances for the Dons.
