A product of the AFC Youth Academy, Scott worked his way up through the youth levels to sign as a profesional and ultimately knock on the first team door. In order to enhance his development, in February 2015 Scott was sent out on loan to Ayr United for the remainder of the 2014-15 season. On Hogmanay 2015 Scott joined Alloa Athletic on a 6 week emergency loan. Then at the start of 2016-17 Scott rejoined Ayr Utd on loan but returned to Pittodrie before the season was out. Back at Pittodrie in the summer, Scott quickly managed to get the manager's attention after a strong performance at international level for Scotland's Under 19's, and getting a start against Motherwell in September, he impressed sufficiently to retain his place alongside Arnason in the heart of the defence. A run of strong performances lead to interest in the player from other clubs but there was no encouragment offered by the Dons and Scott remained at Pittodrie, despite handing in a transfer request early in season 2019-2020. Ultimately, during the Covid19 pandemic, a succcessful bid was made by Nottingham Forrest and it was officially announced that Scott had signed for them on the 23rd of September 2020.
