ministers rout of lawyers

Charity Fixture at Pittodrie. NO LEGAL GROUNDS FOR APPEAL. Aberdeen Ministers, 6; Aberdeen Lawyers, l. The spectators who attended Pittodrie Park last night to judge the football encounter between teams representative of the ministers and the lawyers in the city had occasion to take the matter to "avizandum." There was nothing doubtful about Referee Adam McLean's "decision," the game ending distinctly in favour "the cloth." The match was arranged in connection with the Aberdeen University Charities' Campaign, and Sheriff Dallas kicked off before a crowd of encouraging proportions. The ministers won the toss and set the lawyers to face the sun. After about fifteen minutes' play Anderson opened the scoring for the clergymen. This was followed shortly afterwards by another goal by Black. Two goals behind, the lawyers strove hard to net a point, even their goalkeeper leaving his goal to make a spectacular, but fruitless, solo run up the field. After the interval the lawyers pressed hard, but in a hot attack at the lawyers' goal Sands handled, and Bowyer converted the penalty kick awarded.

Change of Positions. Sands changed places (and jerseys) with Newbigging, the lawyers' 'keeper, who later took the centre-forward position. The re-shuffle did not help the lawyers much, however, for after Anderson netted again for the Church, MacEchern also found the net. The lawyers, following keen pressure, were awarded a penalty, which was successfully taken by McCombie. Before the end the ministers added a sixth goal through Bowyer. The "gate" yielded a sum of just over £9. Teams:- Ministers - J. C. Glennie; A. Hepburn and W. Bremner: N. Birnie, E. W. Burnett, and L. C. M'William; C. V. A. MacEchern (capt.). B. Black, R. Anderson, R. M. Boyd, and A. A. Bowyer. Lawyers - T. M. Newbigging; G. N. Gordon and H. T. N. Sands; W. Emslie, D. M. Wood, and W. Brown; R. Findlay Crabb, J. D. M'Combie (capt.), J. Philip, H. Forbes, and E. Bothwell.
