Denis Law will be unavailable to play for Scotland against Uruguay at Hampden Park next Wednesday, says Torino's president, Angelo Filippone. The Scottish team was due to be chosen to-day. Law was sent off at the request of Torino's trainer for allegedly not trying during their cup-tie with Napoli. Signor Filippone said Law seemed to be holding himself back so as to be fresh for the international match. Law denied reports that trainer Beniamino Santos had told him at half-time to play harder. "I did not play any worse than the others." said Law.
ANOTHER DENIAL He also denied asking before the match for an immediate reply to a request to be released for Scotland's game. Asked what would happen now, Law said: The only certain thing is that I will ask for a talk with Filippone." On reports that might be transferred to a British club or exchanged for Real Madrid's Luis Del Sol, Law said "I know nothing about them". "In any case, like all professional players, I have an agent in London and he will eventually deal with my transfer to a British club". Signor Fllippone said earlier this week that Manchester United had made an offer for Law. Napoli beat Torino 2-0. Both goals came after Law went off in the sixteenth minute of the second half. Trainer Santos told Torino's captain to ask the referee to send Law off. This system of ordering off a player is believed to be unprecedented in top-flight Italian football though it is used in less important matches.
