AFC - Match Report
match report 1955-56 fixture list
Div 1 (Old)
St. Mirren 0 - 3 Aberdeen
Kick Off:          Wishart 5, Davidson 54, Davidson 81.
Attendance: 15,000
Venue: St Mirren Park (Love Street), Paisley
It was unfortunate in a way that St Mirren and Aberdeen should clash in the league so soon before their battle for the League Cup. The result of the game last Saturday is no criterion of how the game may go today. The Dons can claim a clear-cut victory with the aid of a few reserves (who, by the way, put up first-class performances). On the other hand, St Mirren have an excuse in that their key forward, Gemmell, was out of the side through illness. At any rate the league game was quite interesting to watch, with the home side trying to "bulldoze" their way through the Dons' defence whilst the Dons made ground with skill and precision. Disagreement with the referee's decisions by the spectators led to the slow handclap being started - obviously against the official - but the attempt was half-hearted and the play of the Dons soon caused the childishness to cease.
