After the grand performances of the Dons in the qualifying stages, it was somewhat disappointing for their supporters that they got no further than the quarter-finals. At the same time we must congratulate their conquerors, Clyde, on their grand showings both at Pittodrie and at Shawfield. The game last Saturday was won and lost in the
first fifteen minutes, and although the home side certainly applied terrific pressure, the Dons' defence can be faulted for wilting. The penalty incident in the second half was incidental
- it could have made little difference to the result - but it was yet another example of weak refereeing. When the decision was given a Clyde official remarked jocularly, "Ring fell very well
there!" How often are "poor" penalties granted to a home side! It might not be a bad plan for referees to have to count three after an "incident" before they blow for the extreme award!
