Dundee Draw Maintains Their Good Pittodrie Record |
 |
Eoin Jess fired Aberdeen into an early lead against Dundee at Pittodrie this afternoon. The Dons started brightly and Bulgarian Ilian Kiriakov's dipping shot from the edge of the box in the fifth minute was just over the bar.
Aberdeen almost broke the deadlock with 11 minutes on the clock when Gary Smith weaved his way into the box only to see his effort slide inches past the left hand upright. The inevitable opener for the Dons came in 13 minutes when a Robbie Winters
through ball split the visitors defence allowing Jess to bypass the retreating Dundee defence and beat Douglas from eight yards.
The Dons opened the second half as they ended the first and the nervous Dens defence could only watch as the barrage continued.
Ricky Gillies showed great confidence to unleash a superb strike from about 30 yards which flew inches past Douglas' left hand upright. However it was Dundee who took advantage of the blustery conditions when halftime substitute Ian Anderson found Eddie Annand with a pinpoint cross and he made no mistake inside the six yard box on the hour mark.
Aberdeen came straight back at the visitors and Ilian Kiriakov gave Jess an opportunity. His pass allowed Jess to pull off an excellent turn and shot from 10 yards which beat substitute keeper Jamie Langfield to make it 2-1.
To their credit the visitors came back when Annand picked his spot from the edge of the box for his second.
