Mackie Fires First Goals Against Saints |
 |
Darren Mackie scored his first and second goals for the Dons, as Aberdeen
easily beat St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Mackie was unfortunate not to grab
a hat-trick,
after he missed a chance when through one-on-one with Alan Main.
Mackie made it 1-0 after 25 minutes, scoring with what was the real first
chance for either team. A defensive mistake by ex-Rangers and Dundee United
defender Gary Bollan led to DARREN MACKIE pouncing and hitting the back
of the net to make it 1-0.
Mohammed Sylla had a great chance in the 31st minute to make it 1-1, but
Scotland under 21 keeper Ryan Esson somehow managed to clear the ball.
MACKIE made it
2-0 right on half-time, when his brilliant solo run provided him with a
scoring opportunity. His finish wasn't exactly clinical, but it found the
net and he
will be delighted to have scored his first brace for the Dons.
Chances fell to Stavrum and Mackie at the St Johnstone end, and Sylla came
close for St Johnstone before ARILD STAVRUM grabbed his fifteenth goal
of the season to put the game beyond doubt. The Norwegian striker found
himself in
a great position and striker's instinct helped him to make it 3-0. Overall
it wasn't the most entertaining game by any means, but the Dons put in
a great performance and were deserved winners.
