Dons Lacked Winning Punch
ABERDEEN did not impress in their New Year match against Dun- United Pittodrie. By only drawing (1-1) they sacrificed a point while the United gained two under the new rule.

The Dons as a whole were not a good team. There was a lack of confidence in the defence, the half -backs failed to force the game, and the attack was weak in the inside positions.
In comparison, Dundee United were a strong, forceful side, but lacked finish.
Pat Kelly, in the Aberdeen goal, was confident in everything he did. Cooper and Ancell had a stiff task, but they did not flinch. Only Dunlop of the half-backs accomplished anything of note.
So far as the attack is concerned, Cocker, the Parkvale recruit, gave satisfaction. He has a lot to learn, but he showed that he has the makings of a good player. Billy Strauss, on the opposite wing, was generally held. Borthwick, inside left, impressed in the second half. Pattillo did not get much opportunity to shine but Ferguson was slow.
The Dundee defence came out of the game with credit. Brownlee was a safe goalkeeper, and he was well protected by his backs. Court, the Cardiff City player, was the outstanding half-back afield, and Hiles was a stalwart centre-half. Julius6en was a grand leader.
East Fife visit this afternoon. Changes are announced in the Aberdeen team. Dyer resumes at left-back. Pattillo will be at centre-half, and the forward line will be led by an R.A.F. player who was unavailable for Saturday's match. Ancell and Strauss will be on wing, and Green and Borthwick at inside-forward.
