Reserves Fine Win
The Aberdeen reserve team that met Third Lanark "A" at Pittodrie in a Scottish Alliance match showed a vast improvement on their previous displays. Their victory of 3 goals to nil was well merited, and but for the brilliance of Muir in goal the visitors would fallen more heavily. The football provided by the homesters was at times clever and their short passes were very clean cut. Calder at right half greatly enhanced his reputation, and was easily the best half on the field, his slipping forward and shooting for goal being the acme of accuracy. Thomson on the extreme left touched his best form, and Spalding often should have made better use of his centres. Aberdeen were unlucky not to cross over on the lead. The second half, however, was only 15 seconds old when Mutch notched the first point. Cunningham was called into action before the second goal came, but was never severely tested, which was well, as he did not appear to be over-confident. Forbes was second marksman, and his goal was splendidly taken. A pretty piece of dribbling by Mutch led to the third goal. After evading four opponents he gave the custodian no chance.
The visiting forwards were seldom in the picture at all, and if the Aberdeen shooting had been on the same standard as their leading play, their total would have more substantial. Calder, Armstrong, Connon and McBoyle were the pick of the bunch, while Muir, MacLachlan, McKinna, and Christie were the besit of the visitors.
