Victory For Aberdeen 'A'
Owing to the nasty crosswind which was blowing, the match between Aberdeen Reserves and Leith Athletic was at times of a farcical description. Well-intentioned passes frequently went astray due to the vagaries of the gale, and it was amusing ? to the spectators at least - to see how often the ball could beat the man. The game was under Scottish Alliance auspices, and both sides showed some re-arrangement. Less than 1000 spectators were present.
In the first half the exchanges were fairly even, the visitors, if anything, proving the nippier and more forceful lot. Their outfield play was superior to that of the homesters, who never seemed to get settled down. Towards half-time, however, the home halves took a grip of matters, and this told in the pressure which was kept on the Leith goal. McNaughton proved a clever and fearless custodian, however, and the score sheets were blank at the interval.
Despite a slight wind advantage in the second half, the Leith players seemed to be feeling the strain of the gruelling last stages of the first period. After five minutes play Spalding converted a corner kick, and about half-way through, Mutch, who had missed more chances than anyone one else in the Aberdeen forward line made amends by crashing home a second goal. Just on time K Sutherland, the ex-Queen's Park Strollers player, who led the home van, bore down all opposition and scored the third and last goal.
