THE YOUNG DONS carried on against Deveronvale where they left off the previous week against Hibs A and. though the Banff crowd - their biggest for a while - saw their team beaten 6-2, they got their money's worth with a bright display from the Pittodrie lads. They are now playing with confidence and that makes all the difference in teamwork.
A feature of the game was the rocket shooting of Ian Purdie. He found the net once and hit the woodwork three times. Billy Williamson was our marksman in chief with two goals after he moved up in the second half. Billy might have had a hat-trick but had one chalked off. Jim Smith, who came on at half-time to play in an unusual position for him, right back, did very well, and Joe Smith's form has stepped up recently. Ian Taylor, who had sparked off our revival the previous week, again did a power of work as the team's "general."
Our goalkeeper was Keith Davidson of the City Police and his clean handling of the ball was particularly praiseworthy. Perhaps the fact that he played a lot of rugby at school had something to do with that! We actually made a move to secure the services of Formartine United keeper Ian Smith for this game, but the Udny club felt they needed him for their scheduled junior game. After we had fixed up Keith Davidson, Formartine's fixture was postponed and Ian became available after all?but too late to turn out for the Reserves. Ian, however did play at Princess Royal Park . . . for the Deveronvale team!
