LAST GASP DONS WIN IN DINGWALL

Aberdeen completed their pre season warm up with a win over first division Ross County. It took a late surge though, to overcome the Dingwall men as the Dons scored twice in the last couple of minutes. They now face the ultimate test as Rangers visit Pittodrie for the opening SPL fixture. It's time for the talking to end and the real action to begin.
The Dons got off to the worst possible start when they fell behind in the opening minute. County?s, McCormick hit a screaming 25-yard shot beyond Preece after latching on to a Derek Holmes flick. The Dons quickly regained their composure and Derek Young had a couple of efforts blocked before Mackie went close in the 6th minute. Aberdeen created most of the chances in the first half with Derek Young going closest on the half hour mark. He looked certain to score but County 'keeper Bullock pulled of a fine save to keep the home team ahead. Despite the efforts of the visitors, Ross County retained their lead to the interval.

The Dons were rewarded five minutes into the second half when Derek Young headed past keeper Bullock, after getting on to the end of a Robbie Winters corner. One of the highlights of the day was the standing ovation former Don, Brian Irvine, received from the visiting support when he was substituted in the 58th minute. It was County though who regained the lead in the 63rd minute when Holmes ghosted in at the back post to head past Preece.

The Dons turned up the heat as they went in search of a second equaliser. Winters had a net bound shot tipped over the bar in the 80th minute and Rutkiewicz could only look in dismay as his effort was cleared off the line. Just as it looked as though the home side would hold out, ex-Don, Mark Perry pulled down Winters inside the box and Solberg dispatched the spot kick into the net. Then deep into injury time Kevin McNaughton hit a tremendous shot from the edge of the box that left keeper Bullock with no chance.
