Aberdeen fielded a young side as they lined up against Dunfermline Athletic at New Central Park. David Craddock was in goals behind a back four of Sam Robertson, Kesi Omolokun, Sam Roscoe and Toby Wells. Frank Ross, Craig Storie, skipper Dylan Thomas and Aaron Norris were in midfield behind new strike pairing Bruce Anderson and David Dangana.

And the new front duo were first to threaten as Anderson fired wide following good link up play from Dangana. The next ten minutes saw both sides try to stamp their authority on the game but neither side was able to dominate. On 19 minutes Pars full back Duthie was cautioned following a poor challenge on Dangana. Two minutes later a good ball from skipper Galloway sent Smith down the right and his excellent cut back was fired into the net by Lochhead. Aberdeen responded immediately and Norris came close with a header after a fine cross from Dylan Thomas. Anderson was next to try his luck but his header from Frank Ross's corner missed the target.
Just beyond the half hour mark Duthie's barnstorming run down the left won the Pars a corner and Craddock had to look sharp to save a Fordyce header from the resulting corner kick. As the interval approached Anderson shot over then Thomas was booked for a challenge on Galloway.

Half time - Dunfermline 1 Aberdeen 0

The home side started the second period very brightly, Smith and Lochhead both coming close with excellent shots from the edge of the area. Luke came even closer in the 54th minute flashing a fine effort into the side net after good work down the right from full back Duncan. The Dons came into things and Kesi Omolokun's excellent ball forward nearly sent Dangana clear but the Pars defence snuffed out the danger.
Craddock was again called into action to thwart Lochhead just before Paul Sheerin made a double change bringing on Hutchison and Antoniazzi for Robertson and Norris. The switch saw the Dons go to a three man back line and the introduction of fresh legs gave the team a lift as they showed good attacking intent as they pursued an equaliser. Dunfermline however were very disciplined and ensured Gill was well protected. A great cross from Toby Wells created a chance for Anderson but he couldn't direct his header on target - a real let off for the home side. Dangana produced some great skill in the box but he could not find a red shirt with his pass and the ball was cleared. Duthie made another fine run down the left and his shot was not far away. Thomas had a chance from a free kick eight minutes from time but the defensive wall stood firm to block then Lochhead tried his luck at the other end shooting wide from twenty yards. Terry Taylor replaced Frank Ross on 87 minutes then Antoniazzi shot over when well placed just before the end as Dunfermline held out for the win.
