21/09/1907 | KO:

Aberdeen A traveled to Lochgelly and played the United in a Northern League fixture at Reid's Park. The weather was bad. Teams:-

Aberdeen A: Mutch; Hannah, Hay; Morgan, Drain, Robertson; McIntosh, Mckinley, Walker, Macdonald, Ritchie.
Lochgelly: McLuskie; Middlmass, Craigie; Ramsay, Donnacher, Christie; Paterson, Mackie, Barkley, Scott, Haxton.
Referee - Mr. MccArthur, Stirling.

Playing with a breeze, the united at once made way, and Mackie missed an easy chance. At the other end Ramsay gave away a corner, but Ritchie put behind. Lochgelly had decidedly the better of matters, and both Scott and Mackie had two capital tries. Aberdeen had a look in, and McIntosh almost scored, McLuskie making a feeble save. The game preceded on pretty even lines, both goalkeepers handling repeatedly. Lochgelly put on a severe pressure, which ended in Mackie opening the score. A few minutes later Haxton fastened on the ball, and passing all opposition, squared beautifully. Mackie, who was lying handy, scored number two. Barclay broke through on his own account, and added a third. McIntosh reduce the leeway. Barclay put on a fourth.

The second half was not long in progress when Haxton, from a centre from Paterson, put Lochgelly four up. Aberdeen retaliated, and kept up a combined pressure. Ramsay fouled the ball in the penalty area. McIntosh took the kick, and beat McLuskie. At the other end Haxton added a sixth for Lochgelly, the result of a corner. United continued to have the better of matters, and looked like adding more.

A Bad Drop to the A's.

Though expected to get beat at Lochgelly, the number of goals was never estimated to be 6. Aberdeen's discarded (Haxton and Mackie) were bent on making a reputation for themselves at the expense of the visiting side. With the exception of Hannah, at right back, the defence let them get through rather easily, while one or two of the goals were of the doubtful category. One thing was exemplified, and that was the experiment which was tried with playing Macintosh as a forward. He can shoot, and really made an impression that he was being wasted as a back, and a trial ought to be given him in the first team as a half or forward. Otherwise' the A's did not give a good account of themselves at all, while the home lot got a lot going which ought to have been stopped. As the score indicates - 6-2 - there were plenty of goals going, but that was all..
